Südasuvine Shawl.

I can finally say I did it! I started to design this shawl three years ago. I made several swatches and charts before I was happy with it. The Südasuvine (Estonian for Midsummery) shawl is worked in one piece from the bottom up. Cleverly placed increases on both sides and in the body of the shawl create a triangular shawl with elongated points, cosy to wrap yourself in. The tip is quite narrow and at first, it looks like the wingspan isn't going to be wide enough. Still, by the end, you get nice long wings due to invisible increases in the heart pattern.

MKAL progress & New Release. Salakudumised edenevad & Uus muster.

The Mystery Knit-a-long on Mustrimaailm forum is going strong. Sunray was the fastest, she has finished already. She made some modifications in the pattern and used more colours. Look at this great result! It's a work of art! I'm still working on the English pattern.

Mustrimaailma salakudumine edeneb hoogsalt, kui just aiatööd vahele ei trügi. Sunray oli kiireim, tal juba tekk, koos väikeste muudatustega, valmis. Vaata ja imetle kunstiteost!

I've been so busy organizing test knits, Mystery KAL's and pattern releases. 

The latest pattern release was Loojangulinnud shawl. It's a mosaic pattern, knit in bias. I love the birds motifs in mosaic. It's the third design with birds, all of them different. I'm quite sure there is going to be more birds, so versatile, graphic motif.

Olen üsna hõivatud test- ja salakudumistega ning uute mustrite avaldamisega. Viimati nägi ilmavalgust salli Loojangulinnud muster. See on juba kolmas disain, kus kasutan mosaiik-koes linnumotiivi. Arvan, et see ei jää viimaseks.

Just noticed I haven't mentioned here about the second MKAL, mosaic socks. Silver Rhombi sock pattern is currently tested in Ravelry in English. The Estonian version is used for another MKAL on Mustrimaailm forum. Have a look at some samples from the MKAL:

The Silver Rhombi pattern is going to be released in the end of May or at the beginning of June. Before that the Hearty Steps sock pattern will be released. Here are all four pairs of socks from the Sock Doodles E-book. Two patterns are released, two more to come. All patterns are/will be available as individual downloads on Ravelry and LoveCrafts. What's on My Needles? Mis on varrastel?

Where should I start? Having several projects on the go, things to design, it's hard to find time for everything. One would think being a knitwear designer is just about knitting and petting yarns. Unfortunately I feel I spend more time on laptop than knitting. Why's that? Because that's where my clients are, online. Isn't it amazing how fast the technology has been changing? OK, what's I've been doing? 

Mida olen teinud vahepeal? Mitmed projektid on korraga töös. Putukaid olen kudunud veel ja veel. Põnev on näha erinevaid lõngu ja värve koos. Kui suuremad tööd vajavad rohkem tähelepanu ja ma ei saa neid teleka ees teha, siis võtan väikese töö näppu. Ei saa ju niisama lihtsalt telekat vahtida.

I've been knitting more bugs! These are small and quick to make and I love to see how different colours and yarns work together. When a bigger project needs more attention and I can't work on it in front of TV, I take a small one for TV knitting, can't sit without needles in my hands.

Next, I want to show you a sneak peek of a bigger project, a mosaic shawl. It's off my needles, the pattern is tech edited and practically ready to go. On the photo is just a half of the shawl shown, blocking. There are some reasons I don't show the whole shawl and don't publish the pattern yet.

At first, I run a MKAL, Mystery Knit A Long, in an Estonian knitting forum. I sent out the second clue last night. After the second clue the shawl will look like on the photo below. 

The second reason is, I'm run test knit in my Ravelry group to get projects linked to the pattern once it's released. Please join in!

I couldn't stop with birds yet and casted on a cowl (below). It's still wip (work in progress). Fingers crossed it will turn out as I imagined or I have to rip it off and start again. Not sure about decreases and measurements, in theory it should work.

Flowerbed Crescent Test Knit.

The Flowerbed Stole pattern has been one of my most popular patterns. Every now and then knitters ask me to design a shawl in a different shape using the same stitch pattern. And finally it's here, the

The Flowerbed Crescent combines a delicate lace border with the modern shape of a crescent shawl cascading from your shoulders like a small capelet. Dress yourself up for an occasion or wear as a cover on sunny days. A little lace shawl can be surprisingly cozy even on chilly days!

The Flowerbed Crescent features a distinctive lace pattern with flowers and flower buds all over. The Crescent is worked bottom up in one piece. The pattern contains nupps, double nupps and gathered stitches well known in Estonian lace knitting.

What's On My Needles? Mis on varrastel?

Flowerbed Stole is one of my older patterns. I've gained so much more experience in pattern writing now. Old charts were made in Excel, now I use StitchMastery for charts and written instructions. I'm going to rerelease the pattern with new charts, written out stitch pattern added, and I'll get it tech edited too. Everything for your best experience, dear knitter! I'm working on a swatch to make sure that new charts work. It's easy to make a mistake with these large charts. Some testers will give it a go too.

I'm working on a crescent shaped shawlette using the same motifs as well. It will take some time to knit up. If you would like to test knit the crescent, please sign up as a test knitter in my Ravelry group.

Shawls, shawls.

The Soul of Spring shawl pattern is finally released. I'm really happy it's done and turned out as I imagined. I had quite a lot of trouble to get all increases, decreases and short rows right. I lost count how many times I ripped it back and re-knit, all for the better result. I was recommended just to give up. I let it rest a while, then picked up again. Yes, I swatched several times, but can't see everything on a small swatch. The shawl has a modern shape of shallow, elongated triangle, combined with vintage lace border. What makes it special, is the way, how the lace is attached to the body. All is worked in one piece, no picking up stitches.

Look out for beautiful shawls, made by test knitters, in Ravelry. Lovely colour choices!

Mul on väga hea meel, et Kevadsall on lõpuks valmis ja muster saadaval. Selle salliga oli tööd palju, et saada kõik kasvatused-kahandused ja lühendatud rea jooksma just nii, nagu tahtsin. Harutamist jätkus! Tegin küll mitu tööproovi, kuid sellestki jäi väheks. Sallil on omapärane kuju, võrdhaarne nürinurkne kolmnurk, kootud diagonaalis. Next one is the Blue Surf Shawl. You might remember it from earlier, it was published in I Like Knitting back in March. I'm getting ready re-releasing it for purchase through my Ravelry store. Paradise Bay Shawlette.

Design ideas come to me, inspired by a yarn, stitch pattern, architecture, nature, can't name all. The Paradise Bay Shawlette pattern just came together by itself. It was a fast and pleasurable process. I purchased the yarn at Yarningham on July 14, and on 25th the shawl was ready. Getting the pattern ready for publishing took more time. I was surprised myself, I don't work so fast usually. Some patterns take a year or more to come together.

When I bought the yarn, I didn't have a clear idea, what it wants to be. Petting that pretty skein of merino and silk blend yarn, browsing stitch dictionaries and Pinterest ideas started to flow in. That time I was obsessed by slipped stitches, worked up several swatches and decided to use them in the shawl pattern, to create weaves in a blue lagoon.

The Soul of Spring Shawl is designed for an adventurous knitter, using several techniques to keep you on your toes throughout. The main body of the shawl is a shallow, elongated, isosceles triangle, worked in bias. The shawl is worked from side to side starting at one side of the wingspan, with the border knitted as you go using intarsia and short rows in the second half of the shawl. There is minimal finishing, no picking up stitches, and the length can be adjusted easily to suit your taste.

Pointless Shawl.

I sat down to write the story of the Pointless Shawl and realised, I don't remember where I got the idea! I knitted the shawl a year ago and it took just two weeks to complete. Some ideas just work out well. Asymmetrical triangular shawls has been popular for some years and still are. I wanted to try out the construction and add some own tweaks to it. So I added the lace border to start with. Main body of the shawl was meant to be black, but got boring to knit, I added white stripes to it. When the shawl was big enough I decided to add mosaic border and bring decreases to the edge. What I didn't think of, the change of  decrease placement cut off the point of the shawl! I was a bit disappointed at first, wanted to rip it back and re-knit. I posted a photo on Instagram and asked for opinions. The best advice was to call it a design feature and name the shawl pointless!

Nearly a year later I finally wrote the pattern, got it tech edited and test knitted to ensure everything works well. And here it is! If you like it, get your copy from here.

Selle salli lugu algas umbes aasta tagasi. Asümmeetrilised kolmnurksed sallid on juba mitmeid aastaid populaarsed olnud. Otsustasin ka lõpuks seda konstruktsiooni proovida kududa, ja ma ei saa ju teisiti, kui ikka pean omamoodi tegema. Otsustasin pitsilise serva kohe külge kududa, et poleks mingit silmuste üleskorjamist tarvis. Värvid valisin jaki järgi, must ja valge. Valged triibud said lisatud, kui musta põhiosa kudumine igavaks läks. Teise serva lisasin mosaiik mustri, et sall oleks huvitavam, ja see sobitub jakiga ka. Kahandused tõin mosaiigi serva. Salli tipu puudumist märkasin alles siis, kui sall valmis. Tipp kadus "tänu" kahanduste asukoha muutusele! Kui alguses olin valmis mosaiigi üles harutama ja uuesti kuduma, siis peale Instagramis nõu küsimist nimetasin selle disainielemendiks ja sall ongi Tiputa sall! Kuigi Google tõlge pakub Mõttetu sall... Nii või naa, kuidas keegi soovib :)

Blue Surf Shawl.

I used merino yarn for the design. It is soft and does not keep it's shape well. The edge on the webzine photo is not as crisp as it was after blocking.

Shawl Frosty Rosebuds. Külmavõetud roosinupud.

Frost can create such wonderful patterns: delicate branched patterns of fern frost on windows or tiny white ice crystals on leaves, grass and wires. The Frosty Rosebuds shawl pattern is inspired by frost bitten rose buds in late autumn, when some of the petals turn brown and wrinkled and some petals are still colourful. At the coldest time in the morning, when the sun is rising, all world seems to be covered by fragile white crystals. But the most beautiful is frost on the tips of rose petals.

Some designs just come together by themselves, the yarn, the pattern and an idea, all fell in place quite fast.

Mõnikord läheb uue disainiga kergelt, asjaolud lihtsalt langevad kokku. Otsisin üleminekuga sokilõnga salliks. Need värvid meenutasid pakasest näpistatud roosasid roosiõisi. Samal ajal kudusin Pistilistest Koekirjadest oma tekilappe ja vaatasin, et mustreid kokku pannes meenutavad need jäälilli aknal. Natuke "säbru" külmavõetud õienuppudesse, ja nii see muster kokku tuligi.

Hi! I'm looking for test knitters for Frosty Rosebuds Shawl pattern.

Frost can create such wonderful patterns: delicate branched patterns of fern frost on windows or tiny white ice crystals on leaves, grass and wires. The Frosty Rosebuds shawl pattern is inspired by frost bitten rose buds in late autumn, when some of the petals turn brown and wrinkled and some petals are still colourful.
The shawl is knitted in one piece. The pattern is easily adaptable in width and length. The lace ribbon pattern between rosebuds needs more attention as the pattern is worked on wrong side rows as well.

Arrows & Apples Shawl. Sall Nooled & Õunad.

The Arrows & Apples Shawl was designed a year ago but never made it to my blog. At first I knitted the narrow shawl (on left) in cotton - linen blend yarn. I ran a MKAL in Estonian knitting forum. Since then I tweaked the pattern  a bit to make both ends match better. The Arrows & Apples shawl pattern is designed to be symmetrical, with apples in the centre of the shawl and arrows racing towards the apples from each side.

I let the design set before got back to it. I knitted up another version in fine Australian variegated yarn Empire 2ply by Morris & Sons, 100% Merino, 704 meters / 50 grams.

The original charts were made in Excel. The new version is made using StitchMastery. I still learn how to use the software. I enjoy the process. Now I'm able to add written instructions to my patterns and get professional looking charts. I'll update my older charts one day hopefully.

I started test knitting of A&A pattern in my Ravelry group. If you are interested, I still can squeeze some testers in.

 

 

Nooled & Õunad sallimuster valmis juba aasta tagasi, kui kudusin kitsama variandi, kasutades puuvillase-linasegust lõnga. Mustrit sai kootud Isetegija foorumi salakudumisel, mõned ehk veel mäletavad. Foorumi osalise kokku-kukkumise järgselt on teemast paljud postitused kadunud. Blogisse sall tol korral ei jõudnudki.

Lasin mustril puhata ja settida enne uuesti kudumist. Kohendasin skeeme nii, et salliotsad on veelgi sarnasemad. Uus variant sai kootud peenest Austraalia pitsilõngast. Endised Excelis tehtud skeemid on nüüd uuendatud, kasutades programmi StitchMastery. Õpin alles programmi võimalusi kasutama, naudin iga hetke. See programm kirjutab ise "regivärssi", mida paljud ameeriklased armastavad.

Muster on praegu testimisel, avaldamiseni läheb veel aega.
