Südasuvine Shawl.

I can finally say I did it! I started to design this shawl three years ago. I made several swatches and charts before I was happy with it. The Südasuvine (Estonian for Midsummery) shawl is worked in one piece from the bottom up. Cleverly placed increases on both sides and in the body of the shawl create a triangular shawl with elongated points, cosy to wrap yourself in. The tip is quite narrow and at first, it looks like the wingspan isn't going to be wide enough. Still, by the end, you get nice long wings due to invisible increases in the heart pattern.

Get the pattern from my brand new Payhip store or Ravelry with the introductory discount of 25% off (coupon code: Summer) until midnight, Thursday, August 20 (UK time zone).
The pattern is also available in LoveCrafts.

I would love to see your finished project. Post your pictures on Instagram and/or Facebook & tag me #ArellaSeatonDesign so I can see your beautiful project.

Happy knitting!

Südasuvine sall on kootud ühes tükis alt üles.

Muster on saadaval minu uhiuues Payhip'i poest või Ravelry'st sissejuhatava allahindlusega 25% (kupongi kood: Summer) kuni keskööni, neljapäeval, 20. augustil (Suurbritannia ajavöönd).
Muster on saadaval ka LoveCrafts'is.

Ma väga sooviks näha Sinu salli! Postita oma pildid Instagram'is ja/või Facebook'is ja lisa tag, et ma näeksin Sinu ilusat tööd!

Pitsilised Koekirjad a. k. a. Project of the Years 2016-19 / 16. Pitsilised Koekirjad ehk Suur Tegu 2016-19 / 16.

Does anybody still remember the Pitsilised Koekirjad project I started a way back, in January 2016? My aim was to make a bedspread using a different lace pattern for each block from the old Estonian stitch dictionary, Pitsilised Koekirjad. I managed to make 88 blocks before I run out of steam. The biggest problem was to make all blocks in the same size. I cast on the same amount of stitches for each block but some lace is more open than other and blocks are in different sizes. I put the project on hold.

All of the blocks made can be seen on my Ravelry project page or in the blog, tag PitsilisedKoekirjad.
How my project began.

This summer, sitting outside until sunset, I thought a cotton lapghan would be good. Sometimes it gets a bit cool or there are flies around. I decided to use the blocks made. I sorted them by size and searched for assembly methods. It's my first time  to assemble blocks! I opted for the crochet method. It's a bit wonky but I love it already. I'll show you more next time!

* * *

See on mu elus esimene kord lapitekki teha. Otsustasin heegeldamise kasuks. Natuke jonksuline on, aga armas ikka. Varsti näitan rohkem!

Flowerbed Crescent Test Knit.

The Flowerbed Stole pattern has been one of my most popular patterns. Every now and then knitters ask me to design a shawl in a different shape using the same stitch pattern. And finally it's here, the
💮Flowerbed Crescent💮!
The Flowerbed Crescent combines a delicate lace border with the modern shape of a crescent shawl cascading from your shoulders like a small capelet. Dress yourself up for an occasion or wear as a cover on sunny days. A little lace shawl can be surprisingly cozy even on chilly days!
The Flowerbed Crescent features a distinctive lace pattern with flowers and flower buds all over. The Crescent is worked bottom up in one piece. The pattern contains nupps, double nupps and gathered stitches well known in Estonian lace knitting.

I'm looking for couple of ➡️➡️test knitters ⬅️⬅️working from written instructions. If you are interested please hop over to my Ravelry group and join in!

What's On My Needles? Mis on varrastel?

Flowerbed Stole is one of my older patterns. I've gained so much more experience in pattern writing now. Old charts were made in Excel, now I use StitchMastery for charts and written instructions. I'm going to rerelease the pattern with new charts, written out stitch pattern added, and I'll get it tech edited too. Everything for your best experience, dear knitter! I'm working on a swatch to make sure that new charts work. It's easy to make a mistake with these large charts. Some testers will give it a go too.

I'm working on a crescent shaped shawlette using the same motifs as well. It will take some time to knit up. If you would like to test knit the crescent, please sign up as a test knitter in my Ravelry group.

Flowerbed Stole on üks mu vanemaid mustreid. Kunagi sai seda koos kootud Isetegija foorumis. Nüüd võtsin ette mustri uuendamise, teen uued ja paremad skeemid. Samuti on plaanis samu motiive kasutada ja disainida sirbikujuline sall.

Shawls, shawls.

The Soul of Spring shawl pattern is finally released. I'm really happy it's done and turned out as I imagined. I had quite a lot of trouble to get all increases, decreases and short rows right. I lost count how many times I ripped it back and re-knit, all for the better result. I was recommended just to give up. I let it rest a while, then picked up again. Yes, I swatched several times, but can't see everything on a small swatch. The shawl has a modern shape of shallow, elongated triangle, combined with vintage lace border. What makes it special, is the way, how the lace is attached to the body. All is worked in one piece, no picking up stitches.

Look out for beautiful shawls, made by test knitters, in Ravelry. Lovely colour choices!

* * *
Sallil on omapärane kuju, võrdhaarne nürinurkne kolmnurk, kootud diagonaalis. Erilisust lisab viis, kuidas äärepits on kohe külge kootud.

Testkudujate toredaid salle saab näha Ravelrys.

Next one is the Blue Surf Shawl. You might remember it from earlier, it was published in I Like Knitting back in March. I'm getting ready re-releasing it for purchase through my Ravelry store. I would love to have some projects linked to the pattern. If you would like to test-/beta-knit the shawl, please let me know. I hope we can start next weekend.

* * *
Blue Surf sallimuster ilmus märtsikuus I Like Knitting veebiajakirjas. Nüüd on muster valmis avaldamiseks mu Ravelry poes.

Paradise Bay Shawlette.

Design ideas come to me, inspired by a yarn, stitch pattern, architecture, nature, can't name all. The Paradise Bay Shawlette pattern just came together by itself. It was a fast and pleasurable process. I purchased the yarn at Yarningham on July 14, and on 25th the shawl was ready. Getting the pattern ready for publishing took more time. I was surprised myself, I don't work so fast usually. Some patterns take a year or more to come together.
When I bought the yarn, I didn't have a clear idea, what it wants to be. Petting that pretty skein of merino and silk blend yarn, browsing stitch dictionaries and Pinterest ideas started to flow in. That time I was obsessed by slipped stitches, worked up several swatches and decided to use them in the shawl pattern, to create weaves in a blue lagoon.
To see the wonderful shawls made by test knitters and to purchase the pattern please click HERE.

Mõni muster kirjutab end ise. See sall sündis kiiresti. Olin just kudunud mitmeid tööproove ületõstetud silmustega, lõngajooksud ees, ning otsustasin need lisada pitsile. Tahtsin küll saada veidi lainelisemat efekti, kuid olen rahul.
Testkudujate kauneid salle saab näha SIIN, samuti ka soetada mustrit.

Test knit!

I am looking for couple of more test knitters!
Are you interested? Please head over to my Ravelry group where the test takes place.

The Soul of Spring Shawl is designed for an adventurous knitter, using several techniques to keep you on your toes throughout. The main body of the shawl is a shallow, elongated, isosceles triangle, worked in bias. The shawl is worked from side to side starting at one side of the wingspan, with the border knitted as you go using intarsia and short rows in the second half of the shawl. There is minimal finishing, no picking up stitches, and the length can be adjusted easily to suit your taste.

Pitsilised Koekirjad a. k. a. Project of the Years 2016-18 / 15. Pitsilised Koekirjad ehk Suur Tegu 2016-18 / 15.

It's been a while since I posted about my progress on the project knitting the patterns from the Pitsilised Koekirjad, an old Estonian stitch dictionary from 1986. I get distracted by ideas for new designs of my own and see them as a priority at a time. I'm not too worried about slow progress, as I knew from the very beginning, I'll take my time. It is a great way to learn more about lace, improve my technique, explore how appearances can change by changing just knit to purl for example.

The next five squares for my project are ready; 88 of them in total now.
All of them can be seen on my Ravelry project page or in the blog, tag PitsilisedKoekirjad.

How my project began.

*

Viimasest postitusest samal teemal on hulga aega möödas. Saan palju inspiratsiooni muude disainide jaoks sellest lapikudumisest, eksitab rajalt ;) Preagu on mu huviorbiidis kudumite disainimine, sel tegevusel on eesõigus, sest lihtsalt nii huvitav on!
Järgmised viis ruutu valmisid puhkusel olles, nüüd on kokku 88.

Working on this sample, I changed some purls to knits and all appearance changed.

*

Selle mustri kudumisel tegin väikese muudatuse, osad pahempidised silmused kudusin parempidi, ja üldilme muutus tihedamaks.

Similar columns to the previous pattern worked in a different way.

*

Sarnased sambad, kui eelmises mustris, kootud erineval moel.

Did you notice a slight difference in the pattern on top and bottom halves of the sample? There are purled columns between yo's and decreases, on the top half, they are worked tbl.

*

Kas märkad väikest erinevust mustris? Ülemises osas on osad pahempidised silmused kootud keerdus.

Looking at this pattern photo in the book and the chart provided, I noticed a mistake. On the photo, you can see purl rows, but they are not charted. I really like the look with purled rows added.

*

Selles mustris olevad pahempidised read on näha raamatufotol, kuid puuduvad skeemis.
Minumeelest teevad need pahempidised read mustri huvitavamaks.

Sokikesed.

How many times I've promised myself to get better at blogging and how many times I've failed? I would like to share my progress more often, not just share finished objects. It was easier before, when blogs were more popular and people used to comment posts. Nowadays most of readers are moved to Facebook or Instagram, hardly any comments here, in blog. Sometimes I think does anybody still reads or cares what I blog about? Oh well, I still carry on, I think... Or what do you think?

The actual reason I post today, are these socks. I never knitted ankle socks before and wanted to give it a go. I picked a small lace pattern and combined it with reverse stockinette stitch on toes, heels and gussets, so the smooth stockinette fabric is caressing your sensitive skin. I started to work on pink socks on a train trip to Paris, having just brief notes with me. I was nearly done with the first sock when I realised, I read the lace chart wrong! That's why I knit up another pair. The pattern contains several different options how to work the lace. 1 patter = 4 different looks! A simple scalloped edge adds interest, like a strawberry on a cake, and allows the edge be stretchy.
Love my little socks! That's what Sokikesed mean in Estonian, little cute socks :)

Vist...

Tegelikult tulin hoopis Sokikestest blogima. Sai selline pisike kribu muster. Pole viga, kudusin teise paari veel. Nüüd on üks muster, mitu võimalust! Väikesed vallatud lained muudavad serva venivaks. Kootud ikka minu lemmikviisi, alustades varbast. Mõnusad sokid said!

Pointless Shawl.

I sat down to write the story of the Pointless Shawl and realised, I don't remember where I got the idea! I knitted the shawl a year ago and it took just two weeks to complete. Some ideas just work out well. Asymmetrical triangular shawls has been popular for some years and still are. I wanted to try out the construction and add some own tweaks to it. So I added the lace border to start with. Main body of the shawl was meant to be black, but got boring to knit, I added white stripes to it. When the shawl was big enough I decided to add mosaic border and bring decreases to the edge. What I didn't think of, the change of  decrease placement cut off the point of the shawl! I was a bit disappointed at first, wanted to rip it back and re-knit. I posted a photo on Instagram and asked for opinions. The best advice was to call it a design feature and name the shawl pointless!
Nearly a year later I finally wrote the pattern, got it tech edited and test knitted to ensure everything works well. And here it is! If you like it, get your copy from here.

Selle salli lugu algas umbes aasta tagasi. Asümmeetrilised kolmnurksed sallid on juba mitmeid aastaid populaarsed olnud. Värvid valisin jaki järgi, must ja valge. Valged triibud said lisatud, kui musta põhiosa kudumine igavaks läks.

Kureparved Mitts pattern.

The Kureparved Mitts feature a distinctive small triangular lace motifs, arranged in the shape of flocks of migrating cranes in early spring or autumn. That is the perfect time for wearing fingerless mitts, having a walk in a park and spotting the birds. The title Kureparved is Estonian and means flocks of cranes. Every spring thousands of cranes migrate to Estonia for nesting. Such wonderful majestic birds!
Two slightly modified versions of the lace pattern are given with separate charts for the right and the left hand; pick the version you like most.

Introductory offer 25% off (no coupon code required) on the Kureparved Mitts pattern until midnight, Sunday, 3 June (UK time zone). No coupon code needed. The pattern is available in my Ravelry store , in English and in Estonian. If you wish to translate it (or any other of my patterns) to some other language, please contact me!

See muster sai disainitud Mustrimaailmas toimunud VIP salakudumiseks.

Call for Test Knitters! Otsin test-kudujaid!

I'm looking for some test knitters for the Pointless Shawl. When I worked on the design I didn't expect it to become pointless. My first reaction was to rip it back and re-design. I had a second look at it, asked for opinions on Instagram, and now I call it a design feature! I have very little yarn left over otherwise I would add 2 or even 3 tassels to the pointless point.
I would love to see the shawl knitted up in variegated/semi-solid yarn with solid colour lace border. I look forward to seeing all different colours and yarns. Always so exciting!
The Pointless Shawl uses narrow stocking stitch stripes, simple lace and a striking mosaic border to create a graphic two-colour asymmetrical shawl that will hold your interest throughout. It’s worked starting from the lace point, with both borders knitted as you go; so, there’s minimal finishing, no picking up stitches, and the length can be adjusted easily to suit your taste.

Test knit is open in my Ravelry group. Hope to see you there!

Otsin test-kudujaid oma uuele sallile. Ma pole päris kindel, kuidas seda nime eesti keelde tõlkida, kas Tiputa sall või Mõttetu sall, sõnademäng, onju?
Sall kootakse ühes tükis, alates pitsilisest tipust, kuni mosaiik servani. Muster on antud skeemidena, selgitused inglise keeles.
Testkudumine toimub Ravelrys .

Footruffles Socks.

I'm sure it's ok to use a pattern more than once when you love it. I couldn't resist using the same motif from Lumepilve Hat and Scarf for these socks. When I work on a design I often get ideas how I'm going to name the pattern. This time I had no idea and I had to ask for help on my Instagram and FB page. I got several suggestions as Caramella, Snow Clouds, Foot Ruffles, Walnuts, Lollipops, Serendipity. Some of them were in use as pattern names in Ravelry already so I couldn't use them. However, I translated SnowClouds to Estonian, Lumepilved, and used the name for the hat and scarf. Footruffles seamed a nice name for the socks.
Some patterns are quite hard to grade for different sizes. For socks, by size, I mean width, as length is adjustable. I managed to create three sizes of Footruffles socks. The pattern was tested in my Ravelry group. It ended up a really long pattern, as it's fully charted and written out, with separate charts/written instructions for each size. The pattern contains 17 pages. Clickable Table of Contents is given on the last page of the pattern, which makes it easy to find just pages you need for your size.
Introductory offer 25% off (no coupon code required) is available until midnight, Thursday, 12 April (UK time zone).

Hetkel on inglisekeelne muster saadaval soodushinnaga siin. Kehtib kuni 12. aprilli südaööni (Londoni aja järgi).

The Bouquet Set. Komplekt Lillekimbud.

It's been quite a journey designing the set. First I designed the Bouquet Beanie pattern for a Mystery KnitAlong, MKAL, held in Estonian handicraft forum Isetegija about three years ago. Last year I decided to update the pattern by adding line by line written out pattern for knitters who do not like charts. The pattern got test knitted and tech edited. During the MKAL one lady made a cowl to go with her hat. I loved the idea of a set. The hat is worked from the crown down. Some increases and decreases in ribbing make a lovely, slightly scalloped edge. The same ribbing is used for both edges of the cowl. A smaller, modified version of the lace pattern is used for the mittens. Did you notice the lovely detail on the thumb? Look out the Ravelry pattern page for wonderful mitts made by test knitters.

Lillekimbu komplektil on küllaltki pikk ajalugu. Algselt valmis mütsi muster Isetegija foorumis toimunud salakudumise jaoks. Müts on kootud veidi eba-traditsiooniliselt, alustades pealaelt. Väiksem, muudetud pitsimuster on sõrmitutel kinnastel.
