Knitting for Charity. Kudumid heategevuseks.

I am a member of an Estonian craft forum Mustrimaailm. Every year we knit woollen socks and mitts for charity. One care home is chosen as the recipient of the year. Winters can be cold in Estonia, up to minus 30 C! Real wool is the best in the wintertime. I try to participate as much as I can. It's a good opportunity for me to knit again some of my designs or send out some samples made in my designing process.
This year I sent out two pairs of socks and mitts. The patterns used were Bay of Biscay Mitts, Tulips in the Desert Socks, Bouquet Fingerless Mitts and Kuusevõrsed Socks.
Hope they will be loved!

Mustrimaailm koob jälle sokke heategevuseks. Sel aastal saavad sokid jalga ja käed sooja Hellenurme hooldekodu elanikud. Minu panuseks on seekord kaks paari sokke ja sõrmituid. See on hea võimalus kududa jälle mõnd oma mustrit või saata näidiseid, mida olen kudunud disainimise käigus. Mustrid on ehk nii mõnelegi tuttavad, sõrmitud Biskaia Laht, Tulbisokid, Lillekimbu sõrmitud and Kuusevõrsed Sokid.
Loodan, et need hoiavad mõned käed-jalad soojas!

What's On My Needles? Mis on varrastel?

Bouquet Fingerless Mitts

I've been knitting small items over the last couple of weeks. They are so quick to make, posting about them takes a lot more effort!
Bouquet mitts for charity are done. Next, I finished a pair of socks, wrote the pattern and getting it ready for publishing. I finished knitting socks when travelling. I can't sit without knitting but didn't have the next project ready, so I had to improvise with leftover yarn and a simple stitch pattern and another pair of mitts were born! I liked that simple design but it needed some refinements. That's what I'm working on right now, just haven't got any progress photos. I was thinking of releasing a pattern for the mitts on the last photo for free in my blog. What do you think? Is it a good idea?

Let's Twist Again Socks

Viimaste nädalate jooksul olen kudunud hulga väiksemaid esemeid. Nende kudumine võtab vähem aega, kui neist postitamine!
Lillekimbu-mustriga sõrmitud Mustrimaailma heategevuseks on valmis.
Plaan on muster avaldada blogis tasuta. Mis te arvate sellest? Kas oleks huvi kududa?

What's On My Needles? Mis on varrastel?

My recent posts have been about mosaic knitting. I love how easy it is to knit, love to play with colors and create charts. Mosaic socks are finished and blocked, the pattern needs some final touches, test knit is going well. It's time to get ready for the pattern release.

Meantime I decided to use up the leftover yarn from socks and knit a pair of my Bouquet Fingerless Mitts for charity. When I started to work with Katia Seta Tweed yarn I wasn't sure I like it, it's rustic, not very smooth and no elasticity due to silk content. After washing the socks I love the yarn much more, now it's smoother and so soft!

On the third photo are all the mosaic blocks I've knit so far. Aren't they cute all together? There are two slightly different Butterfly patterns. I'll post the charts soon and write about how I experimented knitting them.

What is your favourite project out of three? What you would like to know more about these projects?

Millest tahaksid rohkem teada?

Showing Off My Latest Knits.

I finally got a photo of my latest hat and mitts set. Looks good, ehh? I'm happy!

Lõpuks ometi sain ühe kiire klõpsu tehtud mütsist ja sõrmitutest koos. Päris kena, kas pole?

I have a New Pattern for You, Thanks to the GAL! Uus muster, tänu GAL'ile.

Let's Twist Again Mitts

I feel a bit guilty I did not post about The Indie Design Gift-a-Long GAL back in November when the event was kicked off. Did you participate? I had big changes going on in personal life and I didn't find my writing mojo back then. The event will end tomorrow midnight. Hopefully, it all starts again next November!

If you never heard of the GAL you better head over to Ravelry and find out. Basically, it's a big knit/crochet party where knitters and indie designers get together to celebrate, chat, play games and work together. It was my third year to participate as a knitter and designer. I knitted several projects and even won some prizes in games.

Besides all the fun and knitting there was another, quite unexpected, outcome for me too. I made the Twisted Fall hat, fell in love with the stitch pattern, had some yarn left over from the hat and decided to design matching fingerless mitts. Yes, I asked the designer, does she have any plans to design mitts. No, she does not. I actually own a book containing the stitch pattern, so it's not like I used hers.

As you can see below my initial version of the mitts was slightly different from the final.
I am really happy how the mitts turned out and knitters seem to like them too.

If you would like to knit a pair of fingerless mitts, please get the pattern now. By the way, the pattern is  25% off (no coupon code required) until midnight, Wednesday, January 2 (UK time zone).

Twisted Fall Hat

Muster on 25% odavam kuni 2. jaanuari keskööni.

Ski Moguls Fingerless Mitts.

I have to confess, some years ago I didn't get the fuzz about fingerless mitts. What are they good for? That's my fingers what get cold, not palms?! Anyway, I decided to knit a pair and see, do I like them as much as others say, or not. The result is, I'm addicted! I love them so much! They are great to wear in cool weather when I go for a walk. When I check my phone, I don't need to take gloves off! The shorter version is good to wear when I'm typing in a laptop or even knitting. By now, I have four fingerless mitts patterns published!

The first pair of the Ski Moguls mitts pattern was born, when I got some gorgeous yarn from my relative, who's neighbour is spinning yarn from her own sheep fleeces, adding some alpaca (Broome by The Spinning Potter in Facebook). I designed the pattern while the Olympic Winter Games were held in PyeongChang. I was working on the pattern and posted a photo of the work in progress on Instagram, asking people what the pattern reminded them of. ”Ski moguls” was one of the answers, clearly influenced by the Olympics. (See photo above).

I made the second pair for charity, using wool and acrylic blend yarn.

The Ski Moguls pattern was published today, and I have some great offers to share!

Enjoy the special 30% off on Ski Moguls pattern. No coupon code required.

OR

Spend just $10 and get four fingerless mitts patterns!
Kureparved, Bouquet Fingerless Mitts, Fingerless Tree Trunks, and Ski Moguls
COUPON CODE: KnitMitts
Previous purchases can be counted towards this promotion.

Both offers will end on Sunday midnight, 16 September (UK time zone).

All my fingerless mitts patterns can be found HERE .

Nüüdseks on mul juba neli sõrmitute mustrit kirja pandud. Täna sai joon alla tõmmatud Ski Moguls mustrile. Ma ei teagi, kuidas see tõlkes on? Igaljuhul muster sai nime viimaste olümpiamängude ajal, sest meenutas neid väikesi künkaid, miski uus suusatamise hullus vist.  Kas keegi teab eestikeelset nimetust?

Momendil on muster saadaval 30% odavamalt. Pakkumine kehtib kuni 16. septembrini.

Fingerless Mittens. Sõrmitud.

I knitted a new sample of my Fingerless Tree Trunks mitts. Previous sample was worked with variegated yarn and didn't show off the pattern well. This new version is so much better! I love the colour. Yarn itself is a cheap acrylic and wool mix. My local yarn shop does not carry nice yarns. I will donate this pair for charity, so it's ok to use acrylic for easy wash and care.

Mitmed mu lugejad ilmselt tunnevad selle mustri ära. Kunagi sai Isetegijas salaja koos kootud Kännukaid. Nüüd tegin uue paari , mille annetan heategevuseks Mustrimaailma foorumi kaudu. Lõnga värv on meeldiv, kuid lõng ise akrüülisegune, küllalt lõdva keeruga.

Once I was set up taking photos of the new mitts, I took a chance to take new photos of previous mitts too. Here are the Bouquet Mitts ...

Kui uus paar sõrmituid sai pildile püütud, tegin mõned uued pildid ka vanematest kinnastest. Siin on Bouquet Mitts ...

... and here are the Kureparved Mitts.

... ja siin on Kureparved, mida sai koos Mustrimaailma VIPidega kootud.

Actually there was fourth pair of mitts as well, brand new ones, but I don't show them yet. If you are curious, go to my Ravelry group and look for the test knit about to start.

*

Kureparved Mitts pattern.

The Kureparved Mitts feature a distinctive small triangular lace motifs, arranged in the shape of flocks of migrating cranes in early spring or autumn. That is the perfect time for wearing fingerless mitts, having a walk in a park and spotting the birds. The title Kureparved is Estonian and means flocks of cranes. Every spring thousands of cranes migrate to Estonia for nesting. Such wonderful majestic birds!
Two slightly modified versions of the lace pattern are given with separate charts for the right and the left hand; pick the version you like most.

Introductory offer 25% off (no coupon code required) on the Kureparved Mitts pattern until midnight, Sunday, 3 June (UK time zone). No coupon code needed. The pattern is available in my Ravelry store , in English and in Estonian. If you wish to translate it (or any other of my patterns) to some other language, please contact me!

See muster sai disainitud Mustrimaailmas toimunud VIP salakudumiseks.

The Bouquet Set. Komplekt Lillekimbud.

It's been quite a journey designing the set. First I designed the Bouquet Beanie pattern for a Mystery KnitAlong, MKAL, held in Estonian handicraft forum Isetegija about three years ago. Last year I decided to update the pattern by adding line by line written out pattern for knitters who do not like charts. The pattern got test knitted and tech edited. During the MKAL one lady made a cowl to go with her hat. I loved the idea of a set. The hat is worked from the crown down. Some increases and decreases in ribbing make a lovely, slightly scalloped edge. The same ribbing is used for both edges of the cowl. A smaller, modified version of the lace pattern is used for the mittens. Did you notice the lovely detail on the thumb? Look out the Ravelry pattern page for wonderful mitts made by test knitters.

Lillekimbu komplektil on küllaltki pikk ajalugu. Algselt valmis mütsi muster Isetegija foorumis toimunud salakudumise jaoks. Müts on kootud veidi eba-traditsiooniliselt, alustades pealaelt. Väiksem, muudetud pitsimuster on sõrmitutel kinnastel.

Knitting on Xmas time. Jõuluaegne kudumine.

I purchased these beautiful variegated yarns years and years ago when visiting The Knitting and Stitching Show in London. I picked them from a pile of sale yarns amongst some messy skeins with no labels. I assumed them to be Colinette Jitterbug but not sure. What do you think?

Over the years I have had different plans about what to knit with them. So far I just admired the colours but finally I made my mind up to knit a pair of finger-less gloves. I browsed Ravelry for patterns and fell in love with Pioneer Gloves. It was a very enjoyable knit, fast and easy, watching Xmas programs at the same time. The pattern is well written and clear and is free as well. I made some minor changes because the brown yarn was thicker; I decreased purl stitches. I had just 36 grams of this colourway of variegated yarn so I finished the gloves in solid brown yarn. I actually quite like the solid finish. I love the result and I might knit another pair for my sister.

Ravelrys mustreid otsides jäid silma Pioneer Gloves.

Once upon a time ... Oh aegu ammuseid ...

I have been crafting all my life, so it's quite a long time now. I have been sorting some of my old stuff out that had been stored away and ready to be thrown out and found some bits and pieces I had made. I didn't keep any notes or diaries and it was before the time of the internet and have no idea when all these items were made. I took some photos to document my knitting and sewing of the past.

Sorteerisin hiljuti oma "varandust", mida on pika elu jooksul ikka palju kogunenud. Kõike võib ju kunagi vaja minna?  Käsitööd olen teinud aastakümneid, kuid enne internetiajastut tehtu on paljuski igavikku kadunud. Seekord pildistasin mõned tööd üles, et mingigi jälg jääks.

This vest might be well 30 - 40 years old. Stitch pattern is from Pitsilised koekirjad and the design is mine.

Sellel vestil on vanust oma 30 - 40 aastat. Pitsimuster on pärit Pitsilistest koekirjadest, tegumood omast peast.

The mittens are probably 20 - 30 years old. I loved the pattern but it's really not very good for mittens, especially on palms, as it gets too loose there.

Käpikute vanuseks pakun umbes 20 - 30 aastat. Valge maavillane lõng. Muster meeldis mulle väga, aga kinnasteks tegelikult ei sobi, venib liiga hõredaks, eriti peopesas.

The cross stitch cushion cover was stitched by my daughter, around 15 years ago. I'll keep and finish it one day.

Ristpiste on minu mäletamist mööda mu tütre näputöö, umbes 15 aasta tagune. Komplektis olid villased lõngad.

The dress I sewed for my daughter's graduation from high school on 2003. I'll keep it just as a memory of that time.

Kleidi õmblesin tütrele keskkooli lõpetamiseks, kergelt alt laienev, pikkust üle põlve.
Lõige Burdast?

A lot of memories in this throw made out of my polyester skirts, dresses, jackets.

Selles voodikattes on koos hulga mälestusi. Üsna palju krimpleenkleite, - seelikuid, -pluuse sai tükkideks lõigatud.

This throw is made out of old gabardine trench coats. Unfortunately it never got finished despite I love the colours.
We just can't keep everything, sometimes we have to let things go; right?

Mystery Mittens KAL. Isetegija Salakudumine 2014.

Mystery KAL is finished. I decided to knit the mittens instead of the gloves given in the pattern.
Thank you so much to the author of the pattern le_.li! It was really fun to knit along.
My project in Ravelry.

Salakudumine  on minu jaoks lõppenud. Sõrmikute asemel kudusin käpikud :)
Suur tänu mustri autorile le_.li 'le! Väga hästi kirja pandud, kaunis muster!
