Knitting for Charity. Kudumid heategevuseks.

I am a member of an Estonian craft forum Mustrimaailm. Every year we knit woollen socks and mitts for charity. One care home is chosen as the recipient of the year. Winters can be cold in Estonia, up to minus 30 C! Real wool is the best in the wintertime. I try to participate as much as I can. It's a good opportunity for me to knit again some of my designs or send out some samples made in my designing process.
This year I sent out two pairs of socks and mitts. The patterns used were Bay of Biscay Mitts, Tulips in the Desert Socks, Bouquet Fingerless Mitts and Kuusevõrsed Socks.
Hope they will be loved!

Mustrimaailm koob jälle sokke heategevuseks. Sel aastal saavad sokid jalga ja käed sooja Hellenurme hooldekodu elanikud. Minu panuseks on seekord kaks paari sokke ja sõrmituid. See on hea võimalus kududa jälle mõnd oma mustrit või saata näidiseid, mida olen kudunud disainimise käigus. Mustrid on ehk nii mõnelegi tuttavad, sõrmitud Biskaia Laht, Tulbisokid, Lillekimbu sõrmitud and Kuusevõrsed Sokid.
Loodan, et need hoiavad mõned käed-jalad soojas!

What's On My Needles? Mis on varrastel?

My recent posts have been about mosaic knitting. I love how easy it is to knit, love to play with colors and create charts. Mosaic socks are finished and blocked, the pattern needs some final touches, test knit is going well. It's time to get ready for the pattern release.

Meantime I decided to use up the leftover yarn from socks and knit a pair of my Bouquet Fingerless Mitts for charity. When I started to work with Katia Seta Tweed yarn I wasn't sure I like it, it's rustic, not very smooth and no elasticity due to silk content. After washing the socks I love the yarn much more, now it's smoother and so soft!

On the third photo are all the mosaic blocks I've knit so far. Aren't they cute all together? There are two slightly different Butterfly patterns. I'll post the charts soon and write about how I experimented knitting them.

What is your favourite project out of three? What you would like to know more about these projects?

Millest tahaksid rohkem teada?

Squares for Mother of the Year blanket 2014. Tekiruudud.

It is the time of year again to knit some squares to support the annual tradition of the Estonian handicraft forum, Isetegija, to knit a throw made up of the squares. This throw is for Mother of the Year. Everyone can contribute two squares for the throw, however not many knitters have taken part this year so I have knitted four squares instead. The throw will be awarded on Mother’s day which in Estonia is in May.
It is fun and quite fast knitting squares for this project and every year I try a new pattern otherwise I wouldn’t knit. The square is the right size for a swatch and helps as I browse through my pattern books and internet sources to find something different this year.

For more information please see Ravelry.

Jälle on aeg kududa lapikesi, et valmistada lapitekk Aasta Emale kingituseks ja tänuks Isetegija  foorumi rahva poolt. Kahjuks on sel aastal kudujaid vähevõitu, seega kudusin kahe lapi asemel neli.
Lapid on kootud vardail nr 2,75 mm, silmuste arv 41-42, olenevalt mustrist.

Thinking of Soldier's Mother's. Sõduriemadele mõeldes.

The Estonian craft forum, Isetegija, members are knitting squares for shawls for Soldier’s Mother’s. The squares will be crocheted together to make shawls which will be gifted to the Mothers whose sons have been killed in action. Each shawl contains 3x8 squares. We are making 11 shawls all together. For the first square I used pattern No 40 from Pitsilised Koekirjad (edition 1986). The second square is pattern No 86. I discovered a small mistake in the chart for pattern No 40. In row 11 there should be a purl stitch instead of knit stitch. ____________________________________________
Need on missioonidel hukkunud sõdurite emad. Meie väikese rahva hulgas on neid väga palju - 11. Nad on naised, kes väärivad kogu toetust, mida neile pakkuda on võimalik. Kutsun tegema sooje, pehmeid, valgeid õlasalle nendele emadele." Mustrid valisin eestimaised, nr. 40 ja 86 Pitsiliste Koekirjade 1986. a. väljaandes. Ühe pisikese vea avastasin mustris nr. 40. Nimelt real 11 peaks olema parempidise silmuse asemel pahempidine. Yarn/lõng: Jil 50 g Needles/vardad: 2.75 mm

The Big Knit.

A couple of years ago I was amazed to see Innocent Smoothies wearing little hat in the supermarkets. I discovered that people were knitting these hats and donating them to be sold with the smoothies in support of Age UK as part of the Big Knit programme. At one time, whilst travelling, I used to knit socks at airports and on planes, but this time I have been knitting smoothie hats and have knitted fourteen so far.
For the Big Knit, Age UK and innocent ask knitters of all ages to get creative and come up with their own designs for mini-woolly hats. Once knitted and sent to them, these tiny masterpieces are placed on top of innocent smoothie bottles, which are then sold in stores across the UK.
