Something Old, Something New. Midagi vana, midagi uut.

ABC Book

Can't believe it's nearly three months since the last post here! I wish there was a software to turn my thoughts to a blog post. Sometimes when I am out walking I write long posts in my head! Unfortunately, I never get around to write them down.

So, what I have been doing? I've released several patterns. I try to release one-two patterns per month. I don't have a schedule. When I get an idea, I go from there. Here are three recent patterns: Dark Honey blanket, All Webbed Up cowl and ABC Book. They are not new designs for me all these have submitted and approved for publishing in different magazines. The Dark Honey and All Webbed Up were supposed to be published in the YarnPeople magazine. I made the samples, posted to them for photography and wrote the pattern. Due to the Covid situation, they decided on hiatus and my patterns were never published. I decided to make new samples because I didn't have any good photos of them. I'm happy with the designs. I wasn't very sure about the spider cowl but people like it, it's quirky and different.

The ABC Book you've seen before, I posted about the book here. The rights are reverted to me and I am free to self-publish the pattern. I made a new sample in brighter colours, added a front and back cover. The binding has changed to make it more secure for those little fingers browsing the book. The mosaic pattern is charted and written out.

So, what to expect next? I am working on Christmas Stocking pattern, in a mosaic of course. There might be even more than one pattern. Other things I'm working on are mosaic slippers and a sweater. Mosaic slippers pattern was my very first pattern in Ravelry, released eight years ago. It's time to update it, add more sizes and bring up to my current standards. The sweater, I'm working on, going to be a basic long-sleeved sweater with an intricate mosaic on the body. I have made one sample already. I need to write down the pattern but I want to make another sample also. We'll see, how it works out!

All Webbed Up Cowl

Kolm uut mustrit on lisandunud. Kõik need mustrid olid heaks kiidetud avaldamiseks ajakirjades, kuid Covid'i tõttu jõudis trükivalgust näha ainult üks, ABC raamat, millest kirjutasin siin. Nüüd on mul õigus muster iseseisvalt avaldada. A nagu Aabits, B Banaan, D Diivan? Hmm, ei ole just huvitavad pildid.

Ämblikuga kaelus ja meekärjega tekike pidid ilmuma YarnPeople ajakirjas, kuid nad katkestasid avaldamise pandeemia tõttu. Ämbiku kaelust kudusime koos Mustrimaailma foorumis. Ma ise polnud kindel, kuidas selline disain meeldib, kuid see on hea vastuvõtu leidnud! Muuseas, uus salakudumine tuleb foorumis varsti, liitu ka!

Uutest tegemistest on käsil mosaiik susside mustri uuendamine. Jajah, see on see vana muster, mis oli mu esimene muster Ravelrys juba kaheksa aastat tagasi! Suurema tööna on käsil kampsuni muster, aga sellest räägime teine kord.

Snow Fence Cowl. Lumetõke.

I've been recently working with different types of yarns to try them out. I made a project in a "blown" yarn, where the fibres are blown in a tube. It makes the yarn so light and warm, very nice to work with. I can't show the project yet though.
Next, I wanted to try a chain-type yarn. I picked three colours of Drops Sky, which is super soft, light and luxurious due to the tube-like chainette structure. I designed a fun mosaic pattern for a cowl. This pattern has quite a long floats on the wrong side, need to take care and leave them loose enough to keep the work from puckering. The cowl is worked as a tube, so all the floats are hidden inside and wouldn't disturb you at all. Mosaic knitting is a good beginners colorwork project as just one of the colours is worked per round. Make a perfect "unisex" winter accessory in no time at all!

The Snow Fence cowl or scarf is a double-layered, warm and cozy winter accessory, protecting you against Arctic winds and snowstorms. You can work a cowl, moebius cowl or a scarf following this pattern. All the versions are knitted in rounds in mosaic stockinette stitch, creating a long tube. Three colours of yarn were used, swapping one out after each repeat. However, the cowl or scarf can be made using just two colours.

Muster on kootud mosaiik-koes, seega korraga on töös ainult üks värv. Mustri nimeks on Snow Fence, vabas tõlkes Lumetõke. Sel aastal peaks vist hoopis ümber nimetama Tuule- või Tormitõkkeks?

Bird Tribe Cowl.

I have a new pattern to share today, the Bird Tribe cowl. I'm quite excited about the pattern. At first I designed and knitted the Birds on My Shoulders shawl. The shawl pattern isn't available yet but it will be in two weeks time. The shawl has similar bird on it's point. I loved the little bird so much and wanted to use the motif again. I modified the bird a bit and decided to knit a cowl. Knitting the sample I thought about the target, who would wear this type of cowl? It's a graphic design, inspired by Peruvian textiles. Somehow it associates with tattoos for me. What do you think? I thought maybe it could be worn by young men too. Still it surprised me when I asked my stepsons to model the cowl for me and they agreed, one of them even asked can he have the cowl. Why not? I'm happy with the result!

The pattern is available on Ravelry, with -20% discount until Saturday, November 9th, use coupon code Birds at check out.

Mustri algidee on saadud Peruu tekstiilidelt. Millegipärast meenutab see mulle tätoveeringuid.

What's on My Needles? Mis on varrastel?

Where should I start? Having several projects on the go, things to design, it's hard to find time for everything. One would think being a knitwear designer is just about knitting and petting yarns. Unfortunately I feel I spend more time on laptop than knitting. Why's that? Because that's where my clients are, online. Isn't it amazing how fast the technology has been changing? OK, what's I've been doing?

Mida olen teinud vahepeal? Mitmed projektid on korraga töös.

I've been knitting more bugs! These are small and quick to make and I love to see how different colours and yarns work together. When a bigger project needs more attention and I can't work on it in front of TV, I take a small one for TV knitting, can't sit without needles in my hands.

Next, I want to show you a sneak peek of a bigger project, a mosaic shawl. It's off my needles, the pattern is tech edited and practically ready to go. On the photo is just a half of the shawl shown, blocking. There are some reasons I don't show the whole shawl and don't publish the pattern yet.
At first, I run a MKAL, Mystery Knit A Long, in an Estonian knitting forum. I sent out the second clue last night. After the second clue the shawl will look like on the photo below.
The second reason is, I'm run test knit in my Ravelry group to get projects linked to the pattern once it's released. Please join in!

Põhjuseks on Mustrimaailmas käimas olev salakudumine.

I couldn't stop with birds yet and casted on a cowl (below). It's still wip (work in progress). Fingers crossed it will turn out as I imagined or I have to rip it off and start again. Not sure about decreases and measurements, in theory it should work.

The Bouquet Set. Komplekt Lillekimbud.

It's been quite a journey designing the set. First I designed the Bouquet Beanie pattern for a Mystery KnitAlong, MKAL, held in Estonian handicraft forum Isetegija about three years ago. Last year I decided to update the pattern by adding line by line written out pattern for knitters who do not like charts. The pattern got test knitted and tech edited. During the MKAL one lady made a cowl to go with her hat. I loved the idea of a set. The hat is worked from the crown down. Some increases and decreases in ribbing make a lovely, slightly scalloped edge. The same ribbing is used for both edges of the cowl. A smaller, modified version of the lace pattern is used for the mittens. Did you notice the lovely detail on the thumb? Look out the Ravelry pattern page for wonderful mitts made by test knitters.

Lillekimbu komplektil on küllaltki pikk ajalugu. Algselt valmis mütsi muster Isetegija foorumis toimunud salakudumise jaoks. Müts on kootud veidi eba-traditsiooniliselt, alustades pealaelt. Väiksem, muudetud pitsimuster on sõrmitutel kinnastel.

Bouquet Beanie and Cowl. Lillekimbumüts ja kaelus.

What a coincidence! It was exactly two years ago when I started a mystery knit-along in an Estonian knitting forum. Lot of knitters joined in to knit the hat. Later I translated the pattern to English and published it in Raverly.
This autumn  I took time to re-write the pattern, added slouchy version, new charts and written out lace pattern. I made matching cowl and mitts too. I love how the set turned out! I'm wearing it often.
I published the cowl pattern today. The Bouquet Cowl features a distinctive lace pattern creating small bouquets blooming all over. The same pattern is used for the Bouquet Beanie. A smaller, modified version of the lace pattern is used for matching fingerless mitts (pattern coming soon).

Huvitav kokkusattumus!

Some Smaller Knits. Mõned väikesed kudumid.

I have some smaller knits that I have still not blogged this year, so here they are. However I don’t think they are my best work.
The first is simple socks knitted on big needles - 3.5 mm.

They are knitted up with an interesting yarn combination. The grey wool is hand spun, 50 % Old English Sheepdog hair and 50 % Estonian Native Sheep wool. The Sirri Yarn is pure organic Faroese wool.

Ravelry

Mõned väikesed kudumid on veel blogimata. Järjepidevuse huvides panen siiski kirja, kuigi pole just parimad tööd.
Sokid on kiirelt kootud jämedatel varrastel. Valge lõng Fääri saarte orgaaniline villane, viimane ülejääk Sarah Lund'i kampsunist.

The other knit is a cowl which I call my fake Burberry. I got inspired by this cowl but I didn’t want it to be in garter stitch, so I made some changes. I had a vision of how I would like it to be, big squares in a stockinette stitch and the lines in garter stitch to wave in contrasting colours. Unfortunately my idea didn’t work out as I couldn’t get weaving right. I wanted the cowl to have some stretch in it like knits do, but then the weaving started puckering out which wasn’t very nice.  So I decided to crochet vertical lines in contrasting colour instead.

All-in-all it was an experiment with checks.

Ravelry

Teine kudum on kaelus, vale-burberry. Inspiratsiooni sain siit.
