A Glimpse at Burghley House. Pilguheit Burghley majale.

We spent a lovely day out at Burghley House and grounds. 

Burghley offers a unique glimpse of the way great houses have been lived in from the time of Queen Elisabeth I to the present days. 

Veetsime kauni päeva Burghley majas ja skulptuuripargis, mis andis võimaluse piiluda, kuidas elati rikastes majades alates kuninganna Elisabeth I'se aegadest tänaseni. 

The main entrance is closed to public as the family still lives in the part of the house.

Peasissepääs on publikule suletud, sest omanikud elavad majas praegugi. Külastajatele on avatud peamiselt teine korrus, kuid vaatamist jätkub küllaga.

Common people, like us visitors, enter the  house through the old kitchen. It is quite an impressive room with a really high lantern and collection of 18th and 19th Century copperware. The skulls on the wall are turtle skulls, used to make turtle soup in the 18th Century and served in the turtle shaped soup tureen.

Tavainimesed, nagu me külastajad oleme, sisenevad vana köögi kaudu. Küük on muljetavaldavalt kõrge laega, täis 18.-19. sajandist päris vasknõusid. Üleval seinal on kilpkonnade pealuud, mis keedeti supiks ja serveeriti kilpkonnakujulisest tirinast 18.-ndal sajandil.

The House had it's own chapel as was common old times.

Rikastes majades oli oma kabel.

This is one of the many fine bedrooms, The Second George room. It has a fine 18th Century State bed where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert slept when visiting the house in 1844.

Uhkeid magamistube on ridamisi hulga. Selles ruumis ööbisid 1844. aastal kuninganna Victoria ja prints Albert.

The Heaven room depicts a mythological heaven with gods and goddesses disporting themselves. Looking at the size of the magnificent silver wine cooler in the middle of the room you can imagine that not only the gods were jolly. 

Paradiisiruumi seintel ja laes lõbutsevad jumalad ja jumalannad, saalis lõbutses majarahvas. Mis pidusid see ruum on näinud, võib aimata saali keskel oleva hõbedast veinijahutamise anuma suurust vaadates ;) Muuseas, mina pidasin seda alguses vanniks.

The Heaven room is followed by the Hell staircase which is a powerful contrast.

Paradiisile järgneb Põrgutrepp. Egas lihtne pole peale selliste veinikoguste tarbimist trepist alla minna.

There is a lot to see in the house, worth every penny, not to mention Orangery restaurant witch serves the best meals we've had in this sort of public places. 

Vaatamist majas jätkub täie raha eest. Külastamist väärt on ka Orangery restoran, nii head toitu ei saa just tihti sellistes kohtades.

 I forgot to take a photo of the main course, which was wonderful grilled salmon with crispy skin on it. Just look at that fruit salad served with mango sorbet. Mmmmm.... 

Põhiroast jäi foto tegemata, kuid ka puuvijasalat on vaatamisväärsus omaette. Mmmmmm....
